Free. For many of us it is a lovely word. You and I are born free. For me, it means thinking what I like, driving freely over the UK, my home country, on my motorbike or camper – and now a fancy e-bike I’ve somehow acquired – and generally accepting responsibility for my life, health, wellbeing, spiritual state, etc.
It also means a certain amount of defence. Whenever someone seeks to erode that freedom it also means me being able to say a categoric NO. No, you cannot steal my property. No, you cannot steal my health. No, you cannot steal my peace. No, you cannot stick needles into me.
For those of us with a Christian background, we know that freedom is our right, our heritage. Not just ours but everyone’s right. We are born free.
I’m learning from some of the Bible verses…
Protect yourself: “For freedom Christ has set you free. Stand firm then and DO NOT LET ANYONE put you again under a yoke of bondage” Galatians 5:1
Don’t be afraid of dying: Christ came to … “set free those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to slavery” Hebrews 2:15 (Heaven is a great place!)
Think differently: “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
Actively seek truth: “You shall know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32.
Act responsibly: “You were called to freedom, but do not use your freedom selfishly.” Galatians 5:13
